General Jail and Bail Bond Tips: Collateral, Rights and Application

advantages bail bond approach

In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some general tips we tend to offer not only to those who have been arrested and are trying to arrange a bail bond, but also those outside the jail facility who might be assisting them. This can be a stressful process for both these parties, but with the proper knowledge and basic approaches taken, you can minimize the strain and get through it as quickly and easily as possible.

At Beehive Bail Bonds, we’re happy to offer a wide range of 24/7 bail bond services, plus other solutions like defense attorney recommendation and several additional areas. What are some of the other top areas you should be prepared for in this situation, and how should you proceed? Here’s a primer.

Collateral Available

When it comes to securing a bail bond, there are a few different types of collateral that might be used. The most common of these is a credit card, if one is held by either the person incarcerated or their friend or loved one helping them from the outside.

However, if this is not available, there are several other options as well. Some will use their car or car title as collateral, while others may put up their home. You can also consider jewelry or other various high-value items, though the bail bond agency in question must agree with your valuation of these items to proceed.

Knowing Your Rights

If you’re not the individual who was arrested, but rather a friend or loved one putting up collateral on their behalf, it’s vital for you to know your rights. There are some situations where, even if the defendant violates their bail or is arrested again, you can reclaim the premium paid or even resign your position as the co-signer on their bond.

However, there are also many situations where this is not the case. In these circumstances, which are more common, the defendant being re-arrested or violating their bail conditions will require you to repay the premium and/or be liable for the full costs. If you’re not prepared for this, you should not enter into such an agreement.

Application Process

Also be aware that whenever you call a bail bond agency, there’s an application process to go through. This may include a credit check, or it could just involve you answering a series of questions.

Finally, you should never be concerned about the hour of the day when calling a bail bond agent like ours at Beehive Bail Bonds. We know that arrests can take place at any time, and we’re open 24/7 to provide our services to anyone in this position.
